In the summer of 2017, we are looking to bring 10 -12 young people, mostly boys ages 14 – 19 to Kenya for three weeks. The program theme is Youth Discovering Africa: a Kenyan Cultural Immersion.
This program is ideal for youth interested in history, culture, language, travel, self-discovery, and building confidence. The youth will be immersed in cultural differences, challenging realities, and other meaningful community, public, private educational experiences.
The majority of our youth are native Somali however, they have little or no experience about Kenya. Our youth will read and watch videos about Kenya in the spring leading to our trip so that they become familiar with some customs and concepts about Kenya. Throughout our trip we hope to gain a lot of knowledge and meet with high school and college students as well as teachers, professors and community leaders in different regions of Kenya. We hope to stay first three days in Nairobi and head out to visit different regions of Kenya including Garissa, Mombasa and Nyeri following this. During our trip, we hope that our youth exchange knowledge and gain social change through education and awareness, which is the mission of United Somali Youth.
